Sólfar (Sun Voyager): Monochrome Madness Challenge Week 19

One of the most visited attractions in the Icelandic capital Reykjavik is the sculpture known as Sólfar (sun Voyager) by the artist Jón Gunnar Árnason.

This magnificent stainless steel sculpture with its graceful curves and sweeping lines is a representation of  a Viking longboat but also “contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.”

It was unveiled on August 18th 1990 and has become one of Reykjavik’s most visited sites.  I have chosen the top picture here as an entry in Leanne Cole’s Monochrome Madness Challenge so go to Leanne’s site for this and many more black and white masterpieces…

  1. Two great shots mate……Personally I prefer the second shot because of the reflections and composition…..except who is that figure in the shot?
